[NEWS] VLC reaches 2.0.6

VLC has received an important update. Here's the main changes of version 2.0.6 'Twoflower':

  • Regressions of the 2.0.x branch of VLC fixed.
  • Support for Matroska v4 files.
  • Fixes for MKV, Ogg, AVI, WMV, HTTPS and subtitles support.
  • Improvements of the D-Bus and MPRIS2 interfaces.

Upgrade

Open a terminal window and run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily -y && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y

    I'm using the ppa:videolan/stable-daily and my version of vlc is 2.0.7.

    1. Yes, I confirm that. If you open the 'About' dialog it does say '2.0.7'. However, if you check the installed version using 'dpkg -l vlc', you'll see 2.0.6.

  2. is this the only way to have vlc 2.0.6? i still have 2.0.5 but i think that ubuntu will update this. am i wrong and will be the same situation like in case of libreoffice which is 3.5 also today when 4.0.2 is out?

    1. For the latest bug fixes and security updates is best to use a PPA that is often updated.
